San Juan County Sheriff Information
San Juan County is located in the Salish Sea in the far northwestern corner of the state of Washington. At the 2010 census, the population was 15,769. The county seat and only incorporated city is Friday Harbor, located on San Juan Island. The county was formed in 1873 and is named for the San Juan Islands. There are no state highways in San Juan County; only ferry routes.
Sheriff’s Information
The sheriff’s office patrols a total of 621 square miles of which 447 square miles is water. The county is a cluster of about 400 islands and rocks with elevations above mean tide. The highest point in the county is Mount Constitution on Orcas Island at 2,407 feet. The Office protects about 16,000 residents.
The Sheriff’s Office includes a dive team and a marine patrol plus a regular patrol division and an investigations office. There are 18 officers on duty in the SO.

County Jail Information
The county jail is a temporary facility in Friday Harbor. Only family members can visit inmates and only as staffing permits. Inmates taken into custody are help in the facility and those who are awaiting trial or servicing a sentence are sent to the Yakima County Correctional Faculty.
An electronically home monitored work program is available for selected inmates. This program is overseen by Dan Seaton and Andy Urbach.
