Yakima County Sheriff Information

Yakima county is located in the south central portion o Washington State. At the 2010 census the population was 243,231.The county seat and largest city is Yakima. The county was formed in 1865 and is named for the Yakama tribe of Native Americans. Yakima County contains the Yakama Reservation which is the 15th largest reservation in America. Yakama County is reputed to be one of the most difficult places on Earth to predict weather. It is surrounded by mountains including the Cascade Range.

County Jail Information

The Yakama County Department of Corre4ctions contributes to the safety and wellness of the citizens of the County by providing a safe, secure and humane correctional environment.

Call the jail for specific visiting days. You must schedule a visit and the phone number of scheduling is 509-574-2929 and is open from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Each inmate is granted 2 – 30 minute visits per week

Visits must be scheduled 12 business day in advance

Visiting time are Monday through Friday.

All visits are scheduled from 8:45 am to 10:15 am and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

To apply for Lateral and Entry Level Deputy positions or Law Enforcement Dispatcher positions: The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office contracts with Public Safety Testing (PST) to conduct continuous testing. To view agency requirements and start the application process go to (http://www.publicsafetytesting.com/). Fill out an initial application and select the testing date, time and location most convenient for you. Contact testing directly at: 1-866-HIRE-911. The sheriff’s office is actively searching for qualified Lateral Deputy Candidates at this time.
