Clallam County Sheriff Information

Clallam County is located along the Columbia River and Pacific Ocean in the northeastern part of the state of Washington. The name comes from Klallam or “the strong people”. The county was formed on April 26,18554. It is officially located on the Olympic Peninsula and south from the Strait of Juan de Fuca which forms the Canada-US border. Vancouver Island is across the strait.

County Jail Information

The county jail opened in 1980 and was originally designed to house 72 inmates. The jail now operates a bed capacity of 120 and the special detention unit has been remolded to include a worker housing unit.

You can send mail via the U.S. Postal Services by addressing the envelope to the innate, the jail address (223 E. 4th St. Suite 20, Port Angeles, WA 98362) and do include a return address.

Only visitors on a inmate’s pre-approved list will be allowed to visit. New visitors can be made on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month. Visitors and property are subject to search and proper identification is needed. Check the website for visiting hours:

After verification you are taken to an alphabetized list of inmates. The Last and first name, age, and booking date is listed.  At this time there are 110 inmates in custody.

Employment in the Sheriff’s Office

Clallam County tests continuously for Juvenile Corrections Officers, Adult Corrections Deputies, Deputy Sheriff’s, Lateral Sheriff’s Deputies and Lateral Corrections Deputies. You will be placed on an employment list in the order of your test scores. The placement is for one year and candidates will be contacted as positions become available.
